National Association of Massage Therapists

NAMT Protection Plan Q & A

Is Massage Liability Insurance necessary?

We would say it is. As a professional it is simply wise to be protected.  It’s sad to say that we live in times where dissatisfied individuals readily sue others. Not only can you be sued but also your business, your landlord, and those you share space with. And too often, it’s over an alleged very small incident.

Your policy will be issued in your name and is your protection no matter where you work. All for the affordable price of $89.95/year membership.

Does the NAMT policy cover my business?
This is an individual policy issued in your name and if you are a sole proprietor, then your business is fully insured.  However, if your business is a partnership, LLC, or corporation, then you and your business associates will want to obtain a business policy for the business entity. We can add the business as an Additional Insured, if the business owns the place where you perform massage therapy. If you own a spa, you need a business policy (please contact your local insurance broker for this type of policy). If you work at a spa, this policy can protect you.
What is an Additional Insured?
This addition to your Certificate of Insurance insures your business, and if required from them, your landlord or places where you work.  It does not cover any other individuals, such as your employees or your spouse.  Additional Insureds are covered for the length of your membership period and can be easily added online at any time to your Certificate of Insurance for a small additional fee of $10 each.
Are there any exclusions to this policy?
This is a very thorough policy with only a few exclusions. Hot stones are excluded unless you have 100 hours of training. It does not cover the use of any implement whose point of contact with the body is less than two square inches nor does it cover the use of T-bars or any mechanical apparatus. This does not mean you can’t use them; it’s means that if you were to have a claim against you while using these implements, the insurance company cannot cover the claim.
How do I report a claim?

Contact us as soon as you get notice of a claim. We will then take all the information needed for the insurance company to handle your case. There is no cost to you, and cases are settled quickly and efficiently.
